Biography

Dr. Frank Cheng, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (RSC) and the Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE), has been serving as a Professor and Canada Research Chair at the University of Calgary and Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering, respectively. With a global reputation as a leader in energy pipeline research, Dr. Cheng specializes in corrosion and its control, materials innovation, defect assessment for integrity management, and artificial intelligence applications of pipeline transport conveying hydrogen, carbon dioxide, and oil/gas. He has authored four books and published 400 peer-reviewed papers in journals such as Nature, Nature Sensors and Nature Cities, with the H-index of 90. Dr. Cheng was named the Canadian Distinguished Materials Scientist in 2019, and received the Research Excellence Award (Life-Time) of Canadian Metallurgy and Materials Society, along with numerous prestigious awards. He has been elected as a Fellow of NACE, ICorr, CSCP, IMMM, and IAAM. Dr. Cheng is the founding Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Pipeline Science and Engineering.
