Biography
Professor Nanda Gopal Sahoo obtained his Ph.D. in Materials Science from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur in 2004. Following his doctorate, he expanded his research horizons internationally for nearly a decade, focusing primarily on carbon nanomaterials within the broader field of materials science. Notably, he served as a Scientist at the Institute of Materials Research and Engineering, A*STAR, Singapore (2012–2013), and previously at the Energy Research Institute at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) (2011–2012). He was awarded the prestigious Lee Kuan Yew Fellowship (2008–2011) at NTU’s School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, after serving as a Research Fellow in the School of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at NTU, from 2006 to 2008 and at Konkuk University, South Korea, from 2005 to 2006.
In 2013, Prof. Sahoo joined the Department of Chemistry at Kumaun University as an Associate Professor and was promoted to Professor in 2016. His leadership was instrumental in establishing the Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Centre at the university. In recognition of his work, he was awarded several honors, including the National Award for Technology Innovation from the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India (2018), MRSI Medel 2023, Uttarakhand Governor’s Best Research Award (2017), and Uttarakhand Ratan (2019). Additionally, he was named a BASE Fellow by the Indo-US Science and Technology Forum in 2014 to advance research in solar cell development at Virginia Commonwealth University, USA. In 2021and 2024, he received recognition for Excellence in Research of the Year. He has been recognized as one of the World’s Top 2% Scientists since 2020 in the Polymer and Nanoscience category, as declared by a research group at Stanford University, USA. He has been elected as a Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI) in 2025.
Prof. Sahoo’s extensive research spans solid waste management, fuel cells, nanopharmaceuticals, polymer chemistry, polymer nanocomposites, drug delivery systems, and particle technology. He has collaborated globally as a visiting scientist at institutions including the Free University of Berlin (Germany), Konkuk University (South Korea), NTU (Singapore), and KIST (South Korea).
To date, he has supervised 16 Ph.D. scholars, published over 185 peer-reviewed articles, holds 06 International and 17 Indian patents, edited three books, and presented 111 conference papers. His research has garnered 14,400 citations with an h-index of 51 (Google Scholar).
