Biography
Jiye Fang earned his Ph.D. in Materials Science from the National University of Singapore in 1999. From 1999 to 2002, he worked as a Postdoctoral Associate and later as a Research Specialist at the Advanced Materials Research Institute, University of New Orleans, USA. He joined the Department of Chemistry at the University of New Orleans as an Assistant Professor in 2002, and moved to the State University of New York (SUNY) at Binghamton in 2006, where he is currently a Professor of Chemistry and Materials Science and Engineering.
He has received the National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award and the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Scholarship and Creative Activities. He is a fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (FIMMM) and the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC). His research focuses on the synthesis of shape-controlled nanocrystals, self-assembly and non-spherical building blocks into complex superstructures, pressure-induced phase transitions, lattice strain analysis of noble metal–based nanocrystals, and the development of advanced electrocatalysts for oxygen reduction, small-molecule electro-oxidation, and water electrolysis in both acidic and alkaline media. He has authored over 180 peer-reviewed journal publications and holds multiple U.S. patents.
